The Australian Open 2021 is just days away, but fans are witnessing some exciting tennis even before that at the Yarra Valley Classic Open 2021. The tournament has reached its quarterfinal stage and fans are desperately waiting for an upcoming clash there. Tennis queen Serena Williams will face her compatriot Danielle Rose Collins in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
Both Serena Williams and Danielle Rose Collins are coming into the quarters after having absolutely thrashing their opponents in the previous round. Both are yet to lose a set in the tournament and will try their best to earn the ticket to the semifinal at the WTA Melbourne 500.
Serena Williams v Danielle Rose Collins: Preview
Collins stunned tennis fans when she recently defeated Karolina Pliskova in straight sets in the pre-quarters of the tournament. She survived two close tie-breakers and was able to handle pressure really well. She is certainly carrying momentum and will try to cause another upset at the tournament.
On the other hand, Williams defeated Tsvetana Pironkova in straight sets in order to reach the quarters. She has played dominating tennis throughout the tournament and will look forward to continuing her great run.
Serena’s service is a massive weapon that can prove to be the downfall of World No.46 Collins. She’ll need to return very well and will have to try and find answers to the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s phenomenal forehand.
Williams will also not underestimate her opponent and will have to be prepared for some cheeky drop shots from Collins.
Serena Williams v Danielle Rose Collins: Head-to-Head
The two players have only faced each other once, and that was at the Miami Masters 2018. Interestingly, Collins had emerged as the winner of that match after steamrolling Williams. The final scoreline of that match was 6-2, 6-3.
This will be the first time when Williams and Collins will play against each other at the WTA Melbourne 500. While Williams will try to avenge her loss, Collins will certainly try to extend her dominance over the former World No.1.
Williams v Collins: Prediction
Although Collins has played some exceptional tennis in the tournament so far, Williams will still be starting as the favorite for the match. She’ll want to keep the match short and finish it well within two sets in order to conserve her energy.
Collins has to find a way to return the dangerous serve of Williams and will need to strengthen her block. She’ll have to watch out for Williams’ aggressive shots and play the game mentally as well.
Whoever emerges as the winner, fans are quite exhilarated about the match tomorrow. Will Collins earn a ticket to the semi-finale or will Williams inch closer to yet another WTA title?
