As coronavirus led to lockdowns and postponed the season indefinitely, several F1 drivers found different ways to keep themselves entertained. Many of them joined each other in this quest, such as Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Alexander Albon, and George Russell. The four of them formed a twitch quartet, streaming content for their fans online.
The quartet helped us laugh as we got a deeper look into their friendship and got to know them more personally. So, we look back at one such funny video, where George Russell made a hilarious comment on Lando Norris.
The quartet regularly competed on their Formula 1 simulators. During a race stream, Leclerc announced that Lando’s PC had crashed. An unimpressed Russell said, “Why has he always got problems?”
Russell hilariously added, “I think he’s watching too much p*rn at the moment. I know what he’s like. I borrowed one of his magazines once, all the pages were stuck together.”
George Russell in 2020
Credit where it is due, George Russell delivered consistently good performances in 2020. The young Briton drove exceedingly well with Williams all season. He out-qualified his teammate each weekend and regularly drove the Williams into Q2.
Russell also came close to scoring a point for Williams at the Imola GP, and there were no more doubts remaining regarding his raw talent. Soon came Russell’s biggest opportunity of the season, as he was hired as Hamilton‘s replacement at the Sakhir Grand Prix.
Russell provided definitive proof of how good he could be. He qualified within two-hundredths of Bottas with just four hours of practice while wearing smaller shoes. Russell overtook him through turn 1 and dominated the whole race before Mercedes’ error denied him the glory.
A pit stop catastrophe and a late tire puncture cost him a well-deserved podium. However, Russell’s performance that week was a statement in itself; he showed that he is ready to be the next Mercedes driver.
He scored his first Formula 1 points driving for Mercedes, and also came tantalizingly close to scoring a point for Williams. However, he will push the Williams in 2021 to score his first points for them. Hopefully, he will cross that hurdle when the next season kicks off in March.
