WATCH: Stefanos Tsitsipas Strengthens His Fitness Levels Ahead of Title Defense at ATP Finals 2020

There grew a worrying concern about the fitness levels of Stefanos Tsitsipas after the Rolex Paris Masters. The 22-year-old was knocked out of the first round in Paris which seemed like an uncharacteristic defeat. However, he later informed about a minor injury that bothered him, but the Greek star is getting back in strong shape now!

Stefanos Tsitsipas recently posted a video of him giving a workout to his legs. The defending ATP Finals champ was doing intense lateral jumps to stabilize his knee joins and strengthen his calves. Quick intensity also helps in maintaining balance.

After coming into the Paris Bercy Masters as the #2 seed behind Rafael Nadal, Tsitsipas didn’t even last the first round. A valiant defeat against Ugo Humbert ended his run prematurely, but a minor tweak in his leg contributed to the loss.

He opened up about how it affected him during the match against Humbert and said:

“During the second set my Roland Garros injury came back, and it wasn’t as bad as at the French Open. But it [the injury] kind of had me on the edge of things, and I wasn’t sure if that’s good for me to be out there.”

This is primarily the reason why Stefanos Tsitsipas has been working on strengthening his legs. He won three titles in 2019 but was unable to replicate the same this year. So far, the ‘NextGen’ star has only one title under his belt this year, with the ATP Finals fast approaching.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has a monumental task ahead of him

Stefanos Tsitsipas wrapped up his 2019 season in fantastic style. He outlasted Dominic Thiem in the ATP Finals to become the first Greek to clinch the title. Moreover, at 21 years, he became the youngest player in 18 years to be crowned champion of the year-end event.

The victory raised immense hopes for 2020, but he couldn’t achieve much in a pandemic struck year. Tsitsipas reached three finals in 2020 and converted one of it into a title triumph.

As the Nitto ATP Finals 2020 is right around the corner, the Greek talent must be prepared for his title defense. It will be a different round-robin structure compared to last time, as there are new entrants this year. Can he clinch back-to-back titles in London?
