Make no mistake, Sunday’s Turkish GP was Ferrari’s most successful result of this season. Having endured a host of difficulties, both Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc were able to cheer up the tifosi.

The Scuderia’s drivers were brilliant from the start, making up places in a frenetic opening lap. From there on, it was about making correct strategy calls, which was exactly what they did.

Many fans were quick to point out regular team principal Mattio Binotto’s absence from the pitwall. But the fact that the success coincided with his absence, was something Vettel saw the lighter side of.

Sebastian Vettel believes the team members knew their respective roles

The 33-year-old German emphasized that even without Binotto, everyone in the team was aware of their duties. It was then a matter of implementing it on the track in a systematic manner.

Vettel was quoted as saying, “Well I think you know the team is obviously well aware of the motions it needs to go through. I think we scored probably the most points this year for us and Mattia wasn’t here.”

It has not been the dream last season at Ferrari for Vettel thus far. So in that regard, a podium finish has replenished his confidence and possibly, even his sense of humor!

“But yeah if next race we don’t score as many points, maybe we try again to leave him at home! But no, I don’t think it’s related to that, I don’t believe in this kind of stuff.” said Vettel.

Binotto had stayed back at the team’s factory base in Maranello

Ferrari’s preparations for the 2021 season are in full flow, and that was probably one reason why Binotto did not travel with the team to Istanbul. Laurent Mekies stepped in as his replacement to oversee the race weekend.

The Italian giants are confident of building a whole new power unit for next year. The team’s fans will hope that the start of the decade can be marked with them returning to the front places in the grid.

Regardless, Ferrari do look competitive now, but have work to do ahead. With three races to go in the remainder of the 2020 season, Vettel will certainly hope for repeat performances like Istanbul.
