Rafael Nadal absolutely dismantled Novak Djokovic in the French Open 2020 final to win his 13th French Open title. Rafa raised the bar even higher with an air of invincibility around him in the French Open. A simple straight-set victory against his biggest rival, Djokovic, was never expected. Rafa now has 100 victories at Roland Garros and for the first time is tied with Roger Federer in the Grand Slam tally with 20.

Prior to the match, many had different predictions for the match. And many expected the 2020 French Open final to be one of the best French Open finals in recent years. But Nadal’s sheer dominance and expertise of the Court Philippe Chatrier was too much for Djokovic. A regular French Open final for Nadal, but he reached some important milestones.

The match began well, but Nadal soon turned it into a one-sided affair. Djokovic had a lot of unforced errors. Even though some rallies were fantastic Djokovic failed to break Nadal’s defense on multiple occasions and so slowly Nadal was forcing out unforced error from Djokovic, especially from his forehand.

Djokovic was bagel’d for the first time in a Grand Slam final, as Nadal took the first set 6-0. The second set saw an improvement from Djokovic, but his forehand was still very error-prone. Djokovic’s main weapon against Nadal was the drop shot, which earned him good points. But Nadal too had drop shots up his sleeve and played some brilliant ones to stun Djokovic. In the end, took another easy set 6-2.

The third and final set was the closest of both the sets and Djokovic was more present in the rallies saving a few crucial breakpoints. Djokovic broke Nadal for the first time in the 3rd set. Djokovic was matching Nadal now. But Nadal finally broke Djokovic to lead 6-5 and won the championship 6-0, 6-2, 7-5.

Many records followed Nadal in what was yet another masterclass clay performance.
