Bromances are not a very frequent sight in the world of Formula 1, but viewers will hope that McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo form an amicable relationship and keep them entertained over the course of the next season!
Ricciardo’s predecessor, Carlos Sainz, spent 2 seasons with the Woking-based outfit, and in that time, he got along swimmingly with Lando to offer fans a lot of engaging content.
Following the Abu Dhabi GP, the McLaren pair engaged in a candid conversation with one another. Their new teammates were a focal point in their interviews.
Lando Norris believes Daniel Ricciardo is now ‘trying to be all serious’
In a video courtesy of Sky Sports F1, Norris and Sainz took a trip down memory lane. And naturally, Sainz got to the topic of asking about how Lando would ‘control the Honey Badger’.
Norris said, “I’ll overfeed him.” And when Sainz followed it up and asked him why he would do that, Norris jokingly replied, “Then he gets overweight!”
Sainz then went on to ask him about whether he gets on well with his new teammate Ricciardo. And the 20-year-old said, “I’ve noticed a change lately with Daniel. You know he used to be all funny and jokey. And now he’s trying to be all serious.”
Perhaps a partnership with Lando is all that Ricciardo needs to find his way back to his former self.
Ricciardo arrives at McLaren on the back of a strong 2020 season
While fun and jokes will be a common narrative off the track, F1 is at the end of the day is quite a serious business. Norris will definitely be well aware of the form that Ricciardo arrives in on the back of a strong season with Renault.
The 31-year-old scored 2 podiums and only just missed out on P4 in the Drivers’ standings. Therefore, Norris knows that his teammate could become a big threat to him at the team.
The pair will of course be strong competitors on the track when race days come around. And it will certainly be interesting to see how they manage their relationship in 2021.
