There have been many rumors about the return of Caroline Wozniacki. The former World No.1 retired soon after the Australian Open 2020 at the age of just 29 years. However, recently, World No.2 Simona Halep challenged Wozniacki for a match.

Although there were speculations about a possible comeback of Wozniacki, she said that she was not thinking of it in the near future. She played some great matches in her career, and one of them was the Australian Open 2018 final against Halep.

In a recent interview, Halep revealed that she had not forgotten about that match. In a nail-biting finale, Wozniacki had defeated Halep 7-6, 3-6, 6-4.

“I would like to play another match with Caroline! The final of the Australian Open, lost at the limit, stuck in my head. I would have liked to play a match with her, a final,” said Halep.

Halep clearly expressed her desire of getting one over on Wozniacki. She highlighted that the final is one of those that can never really be forgotten.

While challenging her for a match, Halep said that she didn’t mean to ask Wozniacki to make a comeback. She said that it was just troubling her for the past some time. She added that the Danish player was still very fit and used to look fresh.

“I’m not saying not to come back, she’s very fit, she looks very good, and she continues to train,” concluded the World No.2.

Halep and Wozniacki have faced each other on a total of seven occasions. Wozniacki leads the battle with five wins and two losses. It could thus why Halep’s head always thinks about defeating Wozniacki.

Wozniacki hasn’t revealed so far if she would make a comeback to tennis or not. On the other hand, Simona Halep will be eyeing her third Grand Slam title at the Australian Open 2021. Will Wozniacki accept Halep’s challenge for another match?
