On Sunday, Lewis Hamilton clinched a record-equalling 7th Formula One world championship. In light of this, there were several messages of congratulations, and Bubba Wallace was among the well-wishers. This has been a massive season for the British driver, who broke Michael Schumacher’s win record earlier this year. Now, he is tied with the German maestro in terms of championship wins.

It is safe to say that Wallace and Hamilton have a lot of mutual respect and have acknowledged each other in the past. Back in late October, Hamilton won his 92nd race, beating Schumacher’s 91. Now, he has equaled Schumi’s record of 7 championships, and Bubba Wallace couldn’t be any more proud. Even Hamilton has acknowledged Wallace in the 2020 season.

Wallace quoted Hamilton, who said, “To all the kids dreaming of doing the impossible, you can do it!”. Admittedly, Hamilton had an up and down race, starting from 6th on the grid. But he won the race and the title. Also joining him on the podium were Sergio Perez and Sebastian Vettel.

Bubba Wallace is looking ahead to his own future

Speaking of Bubba Wallace, he is set to join the 23XI Racing team in 2021. That NASCAR Cup Series team is the brainchild of Denny Hamlin and NBA legend, Michael Jordan. Hamilton even congratulated the African-American driver for the landmark deal. He said, “Congrats to Michael and Denny and a massive congrats to Bubba Wallace! This is huge.”

This team is running a single-car operation with Wallace set to pilot the #23 Toyota. Admittedly, Wallace could be under a bit of pressure, as Michael Jordan has set lofty goals for the 27-year-old. With nine Top 10 finishes to his name and a best finish of 2nd at Daytona in 2018, Wallace is capable of running at the front.

Both Hamlin and Jordan have acknowledged his talent. They have placed a lot of faith in him. They believe that he can be the one to bring glory to the team in 2021 or beyond.
