Of the many drivers to take to the track in Sochi, there was a certain fire in the eyes of Sergio Perez; and rightly so, considering so much has transpired with him smack in the middle of it.

Following a good start to the campaign, he contracted the Coronavirus. That saw him lose out on opportunities to make his way up the Drivers’ Standings.

Then, there were talks of replacing him at the end of the season. Eventually, he announced his exit from Racing Point himself. And of course, the consequent fact that a great driver like Sebastian Vettel would replace him. Even recently, due to the lack of resources, Racing Point offered their upgrades to Lance Stroll and not Perez.

Sergio Perez would be in F1 because of his own talent and merits

Despite all of these, Perez did not let his head down. Instead, like a fighter with an elite mentality, he focused on achieving the objectives. More so, he succeeded in doing that – both in Qualifying as well as the Main Race.

It is this determination that the current Formula 1 Managing Director Ross Brawn duly appreciates. In his weekly column via the official F1 website, he stated, “He is clearly still hurting after being let go, in favour of Sebastian Vettel. But that does not appear to be impacting his on track form. If anything, it’s motivating him.”

“It was even more impressive, given the lack of availability of the big upgrade which his team mate Lance Stroll is enjoying. To put in that kind performance in those circumstances, shows why he deserves to stay in F1.”

Perez looking to make the most of the remaining 2020 season

Effectively, the remaining 8 races represent an audition of sorts for Sergio Perez. However, such is the ruthless nature of the sport. That even talented drivers have to put in the efforts to prove their worth and convince the teams. And that is because these very teams hold all the aces in the drivers’ market.

Perez will look to keep his excellent form going at the Nurburgring. Another points finish would bring him a step closer to teams making an approach for him. Fingers crossed!
