Sebastian Vettel, the four-time world champion, finished the 2020 season in P13 on the standings. The season started in July, Ferrari ended the season at the bottom of the mid-field, and we had two new Formula 1 winners. This season has been one of the strangest in recent years.

At the beginning of the year, Ferrari announced that Sebastian Vettel will not be driving for the team next season. The German had 17 races left with the Maranello team before moving to Aston Martin in 2021.

Vettel and Ferrari had one of their worst seasons this year. The German went from a regular race winner to failing to qualify for Q3 this year. However, there were some races this year that he could look back with a smile as he departs from Ferrari after six years.

Ferrari’s first double Q3 appearance came at the Hungaroring as Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc locked out the third row. The team seemed much more balanced as they took advantage of the corners around the Hungaroring circuit.

The German had a few disappointing finishes as he was clearly struggling through the season. However, the German put up a powerful drive as he finished P6 in Hungary, as his teammate could only manage a P11.

Gritty one-stop finish at the Spanish Grand Prix

The four-time world champion struggled during the beginning of the race in Barcelona as he failed to break into the top 10. However, he crawled through to P5 with a gritty drive when a breakdown in communication had Vettel frustrated. The pit stop asked, “What do you think about going to the end on this tyre”?

“Ah, f**k sake, I asked you this before,” snapped the German. “I can do that. Let’s try. There’s nothing to lose.” The German started at P11, finished the race at P5 and won the driver of the day award for his brave one-stop performance.

Sebastian Vettel claims a podium at the Turkish Grand Prix

The German had his best finish at Istanbul as he claimed his first and only podium of the season. He took advantage of Charles Leclerc’s move on Perez that had the Monegasque push wide with three corners to go.

Leclerc was chasing down Sergio Perez driving in P2. As he made the move on Checo, he ran wide as Vettel swept past his teammate. The Monegasque fell out of a podium finish as Sebastian performed an easy overtake.

The German has admitted that he would like to forget the woeful season with Ferrari. He will join the newly rebranded Aston Martin next season. Hopefully, the team will provide Vettel with a car that will help him get back to his winning days.
