As Formula 1’s 2020 season wrapped up, the indomitable Lewis Hamilton stood at the top of the championship. The Briton claimed a record-equaling seven world championships and scored 347 points, finishing 124 points ahead of Bottas in P2.
While Hamilton was busy out-performing everyone else on the grid, Daniel Ricciardo was defeating his previous self.
Ricciardo significantly improved on his 2019 performance. He finished P5 on the standings with 119 points, as opposed to P9 with 54 points lats year.
Daniel Ricciardo predicted at the beginning of the season that Lewis Hamilton will win another championship. In a recent podcast, The Australian shared his opinion on Hamilton’s win and what makes the Briton one of the greats.
“He’s normally nailing his starts, and he’s clean. He just executes well when it counts, and I think that’s really what separates the good and the greats,” he further added.
Ricciardo explains Lewis Hamilton delivers when it matters
A race weekend starts from Friday when the drivers are out for their first practice sessions. This is followed by qualifying on Saturday and then the race on Sunday. Ricciardo also points out that Hamilton‘s ability to deliver under pressure also makes him stand out from the rest.
He said, “A lot of drivers can be quick on a Friday practice, but can they be quick in Q3 at a Saturday when it counts? You can have all the talent in the world but if you don’t shine under the lights then what’s it good for?”
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have dominated the era. Even though his contract with Mercedes ended this season, it is widely expected that the Silver Arrows will renew their partnership with him.
Hamilton has expressed that as a part of the new contract, he would like more time with his family. There are also rumors that the seven-time champion has asked for a significant pay rise. Mercedes had announced that the contract negotiations will start by Christmas and hopefully, we will have an official announcement by early 2021.
