The Phoenix Suns must be a happy organization after six weeks into their tuning with Chris Paul. The Suns defeated the Dallas Mavericks to pull up their lead to 11-8. They’re now sitting comfortably on #6 in the very competitive WC.
In the game against the Mavericks, they were eyeing an upset until the last moment that reversed the result. It was the Midas-touch camaraderie between Devin Booker and CP3 that helped them slide through the game as victors.
Devin Booker’s clutch-play against the Mavericks
The Mavericks were seconds away from taking their revenge for the last game’s loss and also breaking their five-game losing streak. That was when Devin Booker brought back his rhythm from the Orlando Bubble and scored a three-pointer. He made that shot on Chris Paul’s 9th assist of the night and completed his 24 points with under 2 seconds remaining in the game.
In the post-game interview, CP3 wisely revealed, “It’s nice to play alongside a guy who pushes you. I trust him, he trusts me. When I’m passing up shots, he on my head, shoot assist. In the halftime, he was talking about easy buckets and I said, ‘we’re going to get you goin’ in’.”
Such is the chemistry between the 24-YO shooting guard and the 35-YO NBA veteran.
Who devised the clutch play for the Phoenix Suns in those last minutes?
With 14 seconds remaining and the Suns trailing by two crucial points, the visitors missed out on converting three layups. With the situation going out of hand, Suns’ coach Monty Williams called for a timeout with 10 seconds remaining on the clock. The next thing the fans see is a game-winning three.
CP3 later added, ”That’s a big-time shot but I think that’s big for out team because of execution. Everybody talked about the shot that Book hit, but it was the play that coach grew up, it was that trust in our staff and execution is the biggest thing I take from this game.”
Luka Doncic held the last possession and tried a buzzer-beater but failed, and that’s how Monty’s timeout worked for the Suns.
