The Philadelphia 76ers handed the champions Los Angeles Lakers their very first loss away from home as they beat them 106-105. This win was full of surprises, though.
The 76ers were in cruise control of the game, and with 3:07 remaining on the clock, they had a healthy 12 point lead.
But some clutch three-pointers from Dennis Schroder, Caldwell Pope, and Alex Caruso helped the Lakers cut down the lead to a single point. With 18 seconds remaining, the Purple and Gold took a one-point lead with a nice finish from Anthony Davis.
Tobias Harris channels inner Michael Jordan for the win
With 11.2 seconds remaining, Philly had the possession. Seth Curry made an inbound pass to Tobias Harris. He was guarded by Alex Caruso, who was having a fantastic night.
But Harris took advantage of the size differential and hit a mid-range jumper for the lead. The Lakers failed to score in the remaining 2.4 seconds, losing their first game away from home.
The 28-year-old has been criticized by many for not stepping. He certainly did that against the Lakers. Harris took to Twitter, sharing a hilarious meme which included Harris saying MJ’s iconic line from ‘the Last Dance’ I took that personally.
Harris capped off an amazing all-round win for the 76ers who certainly have proven to be championship contenders.
Is Tobias Harris the third star for the Philadelphia 76ers?
When the 76ers took Tobias Harris on a 5-year extension worth $180 million, it seemed like a questionable move. Philly hoped that Harris could become the third star for them.
But Harris struggled to get going in the season and the 76ers ultimately were swept by the Celtics. It looked like he was going to be involved in some trade package, but the front office decided to give the 28-year-old another chance to flourish.
Harris has certainly stepped up this season. The 6’8″ forward has emerged as the third star for the 76ers. The organization will hope that he can continue this amazing run of form.
He is having a career year this season. In the 16 games, he has played as he has averaged 20.1 points, 2.8 assists, and 6.7 rebounds per game shooting 46.1% from the three-point line.
Tobias Harris might be the third star behind Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons and one of the best offensive tools the Philadelphia 76ers this season.
