Tunisian player Ons Jabeur recently defeated Nao Hibino, 7-6, 6-4, in the second round of the French Open 2020. The 26-year-old said in the post-match press conference that inspiration from players like Rafael Nadal helped her in adapting to the new conditions at Roland Garros.

Asked about her initial thought after seeing the slower conditions, Jabeur replied that at first, she was certainly doubtful about the need to play.

“To be honest, I was like, why are we playing? I was looking at how Rafa [Rafael Nadal] was taking the whole situation. I have a very positive team behind me. They always like pushing me,” said the Tunisian.

Even though she was skeptical about the new conditions in the beginning, some motivation from her team helped her in overcoming those inhibitions. Since then, she hasn’t looked back. After making a great comeback in the first match, she won in straight sets in the second one.

“If Rafael Nadal doesn’t complain, who am I to complain about it?”- Ons Jabeur

Answering whether she thought earlier of complaining about the conditions, Jabeur replied in a unique manner.

“To be honest, If Rafael Nadal’s a champion and he doesn’t complain about it, I mean, who am I to complain about it right now,” said the 26-year-old.

In the same question, she explained how she dealt with the conditions so far and who her other inspirations were.

“First Round was really tough with the balls, a lot of heavy rain. For me, playing here, I’m grateful. Victoria Azarenka inspired me a lot, coming from the US Open, going to Rome. For me, looking at these players, champions, inspires me. It gives me the motivation to go far,” concluded the World No.35

Ons Jabeur has undoubtedly shown some great gameplay so far. She will next face Aryna Sabalenka in the third round of the French Open 2020. With her current form, she would definitely want to end the French Open on a high.
