Players are going to tackle the 14-day quarantine in Australia by training together. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have their training plans set. While Nadal will train with Stan Wawrinka, Diego Schwartzman, and Jannik Sinner, Djokovic will initially train with fellow compatriot Filip Krajinovic.
Novak Djokovic to train with Filip Krajinovic, Andrey Rublev and Dominic Thiem
Novak Djokovic has found his training partners. One of Djokovic’s close friend, Krajinovic, will accompany the World No.1 in the first week.
Further, Andrey Rublev will practice with Alexander Zverev in the first week of quarantine. Later in the second week, he will be joined by Novak Djokovic and Dominic Thiem.
Most players are training across Europe and will travel down to Melbourne on January 15-16. Then they will serve the quarantine and practice in groups. After that, the first week of February will host the ATP Cup and the Grand Slam will be held from February 8th.
Because of the coronavirus resurgence around the globe, the Australian government has enforced a mandatory quarantine on players. Prior to the Australian Open, players will quarantine for two weeks and then they can play the pre-events and the Grand Slam.
But the major concern was the allowance of training during the quarantine. The players will be allowed to practice, but under strict rules. So now, players are teaming up together to have more effective training in the limited period they have.
Other training groups: David Goffin and Grigor Dimitrov
Grigor Dimitrov and David Goffin will also practice together. During the first week of the quarantine, Goffin and Dimitrov will practice together, and later from the second week, former British No.1 Kyle Edmund and former Russian No.1 Karen Khachanov will join them.
As the players will arrive in Australia with a smaller team than usual, external help will be useful for them. Practicing with other players will help in their early preparations and perhaps help them socialize during the lonely and dull quarantine.
