Mick Schumacher is portraying a dominating performance in Formula 2 at the moment. The probability of seeing Mick in a Formula 1 next season is growing each day. While speaking to underarmour.com, he says about how he used to race “Undercover“. He reveals that he had always wanted to build his own fame rather than being “a father’s son“.
Mick opens up about how he races under a different name. “I’d used different names to sort of race undercover, improve without too much of notoriety of being ‘my father’s son’,” Mick said.
“But honestly, I don’t feel any pressure to carry on the family name or do exactly what my father did. Most of the stress comes from what I put on myself, thinking about what I did wrong and how I can improve.
“People saw the magazines and ‘famous’ parts of my dad, which I totally understand. I get it,” said Mick. “I mean, he ran off five straight Formula 1 championships the year I was born, and it’s incredible, right? But I did never look at my dad only as the ‘world’s greatest driver‘.
“He always, first and foremost, is my dad. I do not take the lessons he’s given me for granted. One of the lessons is to stay steady, never get too high, or too low,” Schumacher said.
Over this season in Formula 2, Mick has shown his true potential by leading the Drivers’ Championship table. His performance in F2 has clearly created a gateway for him in getting into Formula 1.

Mick Schumacher reveals the challenges he faced during his first year in Formula 2. “Last year in Formula 2 was tough, but that’s the game,” says Mick. “You win, you lose, and improve. It’s a heavier car, very different behavior, and it generates a lot of g-forces.”
He mentions that his second season in F2 was all about “limiting mistakes, preventing unforced errors, being better at calculating risk“. Mick is looking confident, like never before, with his intentions clear in getting on the top step of the podium in F2 and carrying his form from there into Formula 1.
