According to reports, Mercedes are all but set to stick with Valtteri Bottas and renew his contract till 2021. The Finnish driver had an explosive start to the season and currently sits 6 points clear of teammate and 6-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Daimler boss Ola Kallenius had hinted towards sticking with their current lineup for next season, after the first race in Austria. Now, we believe that one part of Mercedes’ 2021 driver lineup, will sign a new contract very soon.

Mercedes set to stick rather than twist with Valtteri Bottas
As per a report by Motorsport (translated by Google), “According to information collected last weekend in Spielberg, Bottas is ready for the most welcome gift, or the fourth consecutive renewal with Mercedes, which confirms it in the team for the 2021 world cup.”
If (more like when) Bottas were to receive a contract extension, it would be his fourth time signing an extension for the Silver Arrows. Ever since he joined Mercedes, he has been on a one-year rolling contract.
Despite registering his best ever points tally last year, the Finnish driver’s position in the team was under a cloud at the start of the season.
The F1 circuit was flooding with rumors that Mercedes was ready to promote George Russell to partner Lewis Hamilton in 2021.
Thereafter, Ferrari’s decision to drop Sebastian Vettel for next season would have probably left Bottas with a case of cold feet.
Despite all the transfer buzz about himself, full credit to Bottas for focusing on the task at hand. He stuck to what he knows best, that is, racing and he did a damn good job to prove to the Mercedes team that they need not look anywhere else for a driver, for they are home to one of the best in the biz.
Undoubtedly, he’ll be looking to further his claim in the coming races. In fact, a new contract, that’s almost within his reach, may come as a welcome morale booster for Bottas, as he plots to topple his teammate from the F1 throne.
It’s a tall task, but it seems like he’s the only one capable of bringing Lewis Hamilton’s dynastic dominance over the Drivers’ championship to an end.
Could 2021 be the year for the Finn? We’ll soon find out.
