Mercedes’ contract negotiations with Lewis Hamilton have really kept everyone on the edge of their seat. With just two more months to go for the 2021 season, fans are eager to know whether the Briton will drive for the Brackley team.
The team have been teasing us on their social media platform for quite some time now. First, it was the ‘announcement’ captioned tweet celebrating Valtteri’s 2017 signing anniversary, and then it was the picture of a pen, stating, “You never know when one of these might come in handy.”
As the world awaits an update on the negotiation, Hamilton hinted at the same in a series of tweets.
Posting a video of himself hiking, he wrote, “lots of work ongoing in the background. Many moving parts but just checking in to let you know I’m doing good.”
Hamilton has also hinted that 2020 will not be his last Formula 1 appearance by any means. In another tweet, he mentioned that he couldn’t wait to see his fans soon.

The current status of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ contract negotiations
The Briton’s contract with Mercedes expired at the end of the season. Since then, Hamilton and his team have been negotiating a possible extension for weeks now. It is believed that Hamilton is keen on maintaining approximately $50 million with perks, and the ask could seriously hit Mercedes’ profits.
While the Brackley team and their champion driver are both looking to continue this championship run together, George Russell has emerged as an efficient alternative for the team after his Bahrain performance.
Hamilton’s twitter post, after a social media hiatus, suggests that he is focusing on building up his fitness ahead of the upcoming campaign. Therefore, an official announcement on the new deal could be imminent.
