LeBron James had a dominant performance to help the Lakers win Game 2 of the Finals over the Miami Heat. Anthony Davis also chipped in big, with the pair combing for 65 points.
James and Davis have often been compared to the Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal duo from the 2000s. Bron opened up on those comparisons after Game 2.
“I grew up admiring Kobe … and obviously the force that Shaq played with.”

“In high school, watching the Kobe and Shaq duo. It was the most dominant duo that I had ever personally seen in my life from a basketball perspective. Obviously, we knew the force that Shaq brought to the table and the elegance and force that Kobe played with as well. They were very dominant with what they did on both sides of the floor.
“To be in conversation with those two guys, myself and AD, it’s just very humbling. I know I grew up watching those guys, I grew up admiring Kobe coming straight out of high school. I admired that kid who got the opportunity and obviously the force Shaq played with. It’s very humbling, and I am happy that we can even be mentioned with those greats.”
LeBron James and Anthony Davis already on the same level as Kobe and Shaq?
While the comparisons are warranted, is it fair to compare year one of LBJ and AD to one of the greatest tandems in basketball history? Kobe and Shaq are the only other duo not named Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan to have a three-peat to their name. However, the James and Davis duo may be one of the most talented of all time.
Better comparisons could be made with Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar. LeBron is the gigantic point guard that sets up the dominant big man, exactly how Magic and Kareem used to do it. However, you cannot ignore the relevance of Shaq and Kobe on this particular duo. While achieving what those two did is near impossible for LBJ and AD (due to Bron’s age), they have a lot of brilliant and entertaining basketball ahead of them.
