Lando Norris will begin his third season in F1 once the action kicks off on March 28th. The young Briton had a tough rookie year but backed that up by going toe-to-toe with his teammate Carlos Sainz in 2020. The 20-year-old showed a great deal of progress last year as he helped McLaren achieve a third place finish in the championship and also helped himself to a maiden podium. However, Norris still believes he has a great deal of improvement to achieve when it comes to maintaining the high fitness levels asked of an F1 driver.
Norris revealed his plans to help him achieve his goals (which also include doing a shoey). He said, “I have tried to be more strict with certain things, whether that is with food and trying not to have a pizza as often.
“I can still have a little treat now and then, but it is also the physical side of it, too. Trying to do more in the gym because I struggle with that part of it.”
Lando Norris reveals that he struggles to motivate himself to maintain his fitness
The Briton said that fitness has not always been on his priority list. However, being in a sport that demands one to be at his peak, Norris is working on that aspect despite his reluctance.
He said, “I know I am in Formula One and I am in a very privileged position, but that doesn’t matter because I can still struggle to want to go out on a run or go into the gym and lift weights.
“I struggle to motivate myself, so I have tried more things and pushed myself through moments that I hate because I know that good things come of it.
“I am better prepared physically because of it. I’m trying to think outside the box and dedicating more time to work out what is good for me and push myself to the next level.”
Fans will be pleased to hear that Norris is doing his utmost in order to be a future world champion. His talent is not in question. By pushing himself, it’s clear for all to see that he wants to become a better driver and has high aspirations. This bodes well for his future success.
In the more near future, his job will be to help McLaren continue on their upward trajectory. The likes of Aston Martin will make the battle for 3rd place tough. But with Norris and Ricciardo at the helm of the Woking-based outfit, confidence will be high going into the new season.
