LaMelo Ball deciding to sign with apparel giants Puma in August shocked everyone. Not because of anything else but the fact that this meant that he would have to bid adieu to the Big Baller Brand that his father created.
LaVar is known to be a little dramatic, something we all witnessed when his other son, Lonzo, left the Lakers. And now, he isn’t thrilled with his younger son signing with a much more established brand.
Signing rookies even before they enter the NBA has become the norm now. For example, Zion Williamson signed a multi-year $75 million deal with Jordan’s brand last July and now LaMelo Ball.
LaMelo’s statistics speak for him. Playing a season for the Australian National Basketball League, he was named Rookie of the Year.
He averaged 17 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. He also became the youngest player in NBL’s history to achieve a triple-double.
Although LaMelo will be busy getting ready for his big night, his father is more concerned about the deal he signed with Puma.
LaMelo and LaVar Ball’s race to billions
According to LaVar, LaMelo has made a huge mistake by choosing Puma over BBB. “I’d love my son to make a mistake and make millions off of it,” stated LaVar.
He elaborated on how he is expanding his business and said, “We have some rims and tires coming out. That’s just an apparel deal,” he stated mockingly.
“That ain’t nothing but some clothes. Sneakers come in pairs, you get two’s. I’m about to add some rim and tires, they come in four’s. You keep stepping, I’m going to keep rolling, and let’s see who gets to the billions first.”
@Lavarbigballer is convinced LaMelo’s reported $100 million PUMA deal with access to a private jet is a RAW deal.
“What’s he gonna do with a private jet? Tell his basketball team, ‘I’ll meet ya’ll there!’ 😂

He didn’t leave any opportunity to ridicule the private jet part of the deal either. “What do you mean with a private jet? What is he going to tell his basketball team? ‘I’ll meet you all there?’ The only way they can be billionaires is with Big Baller Brand. Why? Because we own something.”
Looks like the Ball family will always find a way to be in the news. Wherever the draft takes LaMelo, it looks like his father won’t hold back from commenting on that either.
