“It’s Very Different to Ferrari”- Sebastian Vettel Concedes Lawrence Stroll Convinced Him to Join Aston Martin

As one door closes, another one opens. And as far as Sebastian Vettel is concerned, Aston Martin Racing was the door that opened for him. After months of continued speculation, Racing Point recently confirmed the move.

Many are of the opinion that Vettel, with his career hanging in the balance, would have been quick to cling to at any opportunity to jump ship from Ferrari; however, that was certainly not the case.

The approach to Vettel by the Racing Point management was one that required conviction. Especially at a time, when the German driver had a sabbatical and retirement on his plate.

What convinced Sebastian Vettel to join Aston Martin’s ranks

While in conversation on the popular podcast ‘F1: Beyond The Grid’, Vettel opened up about the merits of Racing Point’s overall sporting project. And when asked by the host about what convinced him during his discussion with owner Lawrence Stroll, Vettel stated, “Well, he (Lawrence Stroll) did. I think the fact that the team is growing, a lot of factors.

“So I think those boxes were quite easy to tick, in terms of the performance, the racing side of things. Where the team is, where the team might be, the potential and so on.

“But more so, I think it was the mindset. The will to really do something, do something good and bring something good together. It sounds like a fun project and something that I ultimately decided I wanted to be a part of.

“It is very different to Ferrari. Obviously, Racing Point as it stands today and in the future Aston Martin will be growing. There will be a lot of things happening for the first time.

“And I think it’s an incredible challenging journey for the whole team. Me joining I hope, I can contribute a lot of things to do good in the car and outside the car.”
