With their win against the Boston Celtics, the Atlanta Hawks put an end to their four-game losing streak. This was after the Celtics were coming from a big win against the Denver Nuggets. Now, the Hawks improved their record to 12-16, holding the tenth position in the Eastern Conference. And the Celtics have the same wins and losses at 14, holding the fifth position in the East. But who was the game-changer for the Hawks? Of course, their young superstar, Trae Young.
Trae Young etched his name in NBA history
The Atlanta Hawks were able to snap out of their losing streak, thanks to Trae Young and his big night. Young ended up scoring 40 points, 8 assists, and 3 rebounds. In fact, 16 of these points actually came in the fourth quarter and gave them a 122-114 victory.
Trae had four three-pointers for himself and went 14 for 20 from the field. This was his ninth game in which he finished with 30+ points and his third game with 40+ points. This incredible stat has added Young’s name next to some of NBA’s great’s.
As per ESPN Stats and Info, “He is the 5th player in NBA history to record at least 15 career 40-point games at the age of 22 or younger joining Rick Barry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant & Shaquille O’Neal.”
Trae has shown promising potential with the Hawks so far. In fact, if it wasn’t for him, they wouldn’t still have a shot at securing a place in the playoffs.
Other factors that influenced the Hawks’ win
The second lead scorer for Atlanta was Clint Capela, who contributed 24 points and 13 rebounds to the scoreboard. There was also John Collins, who added 20 points as well.
Despite Jayson Tatum‘s 35 point performance and Jaylen Brown’s 22 points, it wasn’t enough for the Boston Celtics to get that win. Unfortunately, they were without Kemba Walker and Daniel Theis, which could have been a factor for their loss. The Celtics were leading 35-33 in the first quarter, but by the fourth, the Hawks had taken over 90-81.
This was the first game of their miniseries. The two teams are facing each other again, which will give the Hawks a chance to prove that this win was no fluke but that they can beat a team like the Celtics. Can Boston make its comeback?
