This year, Poland’s Iga Swiatek made headlines with her performance at the French Open. Being a Grand Slam winner in your teenage years is quite an achievement. With this feat, she has joined the elite club which includes Rafael Nadal and Monica Seles. Iga has also won the 2018 Wimbledon junior championships.

In the build-up to the French Open 2020, not many must’ve thought of the young girl as a serious contender. In her opening round match, she ousted the 2019 finalist, Marketa Vondrousova. Proceeding further, she knocked out the favorite, Simona Halep. After that win, she did grab eyeballs as people took notice of her.

A dazzling future for the youngsters

Another youngster, Belinda Bencic, who has a bright future herself hailed Iga for her impressive display at Roland Garros. Belinda had some word of praises and stated, “It was nice at Roland Garros to see Iga do really well. It was great for her and for sure really surprising. She’s a great talent coming up. For sure we’ll see more of her.

Bencic herself has seen a fair amount of success in her career. She has won four WTA titles. In 2019, she had a breakthrough season. She won the Dubai Tennis Championships, following which she reached the semi-finals of the US Open. The Swiss player even made it to the season-ending WTA Finals. Having a positive run into events, Bencic attained a career-best ranking of 4 in the world.

Coming back to the Pole, Iga Swiatek has an interesting style of play. She has an all-court game, but her game is well suited for the clay courts. She hits a forehand with a top-spin on it. It’s a style similar to that of Nadal, and clay courts being her favorite should come as no surprise. Seeing her style of play, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see her win another French Open title in the future.
