“Going to Make Sure I Overdeliver” – Perez Sets Sights on World Championship With Red Bull F1

Red Bull fans just cannot wait to see Sergio Perez in action on the track, and neither can he. In just over a couple of months, though, that wish for both parties will get fulfilled.

The Mexican driver partners Max Verstappen in a full-strength driver pairing for 2021. Needless to say, this is arguably the strongest lineup the team have had since Ricciardo-Verstappen back in 2018.

Speaking to the team’s website in his first interview, Perez outlined his objectives for the upcoming campaign. Rest assured, his desire to win a championship reflects in the driver’s words and attitude.

Sergio Perez feels Red Bull Racing chance is his ‘big opportunity’

Perez stated, “I am always pushing to the maximum and last year I finally had a car that I could show a bit more and people saw what I am capable of, but now is my big opportunity. I have to go onto the next step in all aspects and I think I’m ready for it.”

The 30-year-old’s reputation has risen to become a ‘king in the midfield,’ winning podiums with Sauber and later Force India. Undoubtedly, he will look to inject performance boosts and aid the team with what would be the second-fastest car on the F1 grid.

The former Racing Point driver continued, “The only thing I was lacking was the opportunity. Now I have it, it’s up to me to make it work. I’m going to make sure I overdeliver.”

Perez’s all-round driving persona could benefit his new team big time

“If we have a car that can win the championship, I’ll make sure we win it. And if not, and we only have a car that’s good enough for third I will make sure that we finish second,” concluded Perez.

Sergio certainly brings a varied set of skills to the table and has become a more matured driver in the recent years. His overtaking ability and grit in races sees him turn into a fierce contender on the track.

Add to that his tire management skills, and it enables Red Bull to undertake an efficient race strategy with Verstappen also out in front. Overall then, the signing of Perez does look to be a logically sound choice and it will be interesting how he performs going forward in the season.
