In the process of becoming the best player of his generation, LeBron James has also garnered a lot of criticism. From being called arrogant to being termed selfish, he has heard it all.
So when teammate Anthony Davis joined the Lakers, he made it his mission to unearth the truth of the matter. “People say he’s a selfish player, he wants to do his own thing, be the focal point and centerpiece,” Davis said on Da Windy City podcast.
“But I didn’t get that vibe from him. He’s really a team player. He gets so upset when guys aren’t playing to their (full) abilities because he wants them to be great.
“So when he knows you can play better… that’s when he’ll really get on you. It’s been great. I didn’t really know that about him. He wants the best for every player 1 through 15 on the roster.”

Despite him still being one of the best scorers in the league currently, LeBron has now endorsed a pass-first mentality. This involves the whole team, and he tries to get the best out of everyone.
During Game 5 of the NBA Finals, LeBron could have forced up a game-winner, but he passed it to Danny Green instead as he was in a better position. While it didn’t go exactly according to plan, one can see his approach to the game.
Anthony Davis isn’t the first player to call LeBron James unselfish
One could say that Davis is biased since he is a teammate. But a couple of months back, one of LeBron’s former rivals, Kevin Garnett, also said the same thing.
While Davis just talked about how LeBron is unselfish on the team, Garnett had a much larger scale of comparison. “He’s the most unselfish player we’ve ever had,” Garnett said.
“His superpower has always the ability to bring out the best in his teammates. The King has a real finesse of when to attack, when to be aggressive and when to play it safe.”
LeBron is so focused on doing what’s best for the team and not just himself, he had said in an interview in 2017 that he wants to be remembered among the most unselfish players of all time. And the way he has played since then, he will be remembered for that and that only!
