The Toronto Raptors had a very rough start to the season. The 2019 NBA Champions were expected to pick up from their impressive regular season in 2019-20 this year. However, they started very rough and occupied a place towards the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
Fortunately for them, they have picked up a few wins and are looking steady again. One of those wins came over the Orlando Magic.
But the main topic of conversation post-game wasn’t Toronto’s newfound form but the rivalry between Aaron Gordon and Kyle Lowry. The pair have exchanged some hard fouls over the bubble and this game, but a possible malicious attempt came from Lowry’s side tonight.
Orlando Magic head coach Steve Clifford felt the need to comment on the foul after the game, implying that Lowry didn’t have the best intentions heading into that box-out.
While the history between these two is a little intense, injuries could change the tone of the game. Lowry is known to be an aggressive defender, and this is obviously something Gordon has an objection to. With this game in the dust, this will hopefully not flare up again.
Raptors showing fight again?
While the Kyle Lowry foul was more of a personal thing between him and AG, the new fire of the Raptors is fun to watch. They just broke a three-game losing streak against the Magic, having found momentum prior to that. This Raptors team may just be a little too streaky for most people’s liking, but they can be expected to turn it around.
Even though they lost players like Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol, they have the veteran experience and depth to have a good season. They are out of a playoff position right now but are widely expected to romp into it by the time it matters.
As for Lowry and Gordon, their rivalry is one that can provide a lot of entertainment. However, the fouls they have already exchanged show that one day they may get hurt. Proceed with caution.
