Racing Point missed out on a podium at the Imola Grand Prix. The team’s pit strategy caused Sergio Perez to fall from P4 to P6 as the safety car poured cold water over their podium chances. However, the team’s Technical Director later clarified that it was the best strategy for Perez at the moment.

Moreover, Lance Stroll finished outside of the points tally at P13. The team clearly did not enjoy a great day at Imola. Additionally, a Racing Point mechanic was hit by Lance Stroll as he overshot his stop coming into the pit.

It was later announced by the team that the mechanic was just a little bruised and it was nothing serious. The jackman was back to work with the pack right after his tumble.

After a couple of days, Sergio Perez mentioned the jackman on his story with a hilarious caption. “I would make sure I bring some new underwear to him in Turkey. Dale is the man!”  He also assured everyone that the jackman is fine after the incident.

The troublesome incident

Lance Stroll had a troubled outing at Imola. The Canadian suffered critical contact with Esteban Ocon in the first lap. The contact caused a lot of damage to his front wings, and it significantly affected his race from thereon.

Later, on the hard tires, Lance stroll came into the pits and overshot the brakes forcing his jackman into a tumble.

After the race, Lance Stroll explained the incident. “At the final pitstop, I had really cold brakes and that meant I overshot the pit box. I’m really glad to hear that my mechanic is OK – that’s the most important thing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sergio Perez lost his shot at the podium due to an unfortunate pit strategy and yellow flag. Andrew Green, the team’s Technical Director, admitted that in hindsight they would have done things differently, but at that moment it seemed like the best strategy for the Mexican.

Racing Point bagged a P6 and P13 finish at the Imola GP.  Currently tied with McLaren with 134 points at P5 on the table, they are barely one point off of Renault at P3 with 135.

With only a handful of races to go, the team will be looking forward to bagging some points and fighting their way to a P3 finish on the Constructors’ Championship.
