The 2021 Australian Open is set to begin in a few days and players from around the world are appearing at the event. Now, they finally know who they are up against as the draw has just been announced. Here’s how it looks on the women’s side.
Top 4 Seeds At Australian Open 2021
This year, the top 2 seeds at this year’s Australian Open are Ashleigh Barty and Simona Halep. They are followed by Naomi Osaka and Sofia Kenin who are the 3rd and 4th seeds respectively.
Barty, who is returning to tennis after nearly 12 months, has a potential match-up with Petra Martic. She is ranked No.18 and could pose a huge challenge for her. Apart from her, Barty has no real challengers.
Moving on to Halep, she has a potential match-up with French Open champion Iga Swiatek. This will surely be a tough match for her and she will have to be ready for it.
Osaka has an even tougher path at this year’s Australian Open. She could potentially face 2-time Major Champion Garbine Muguruza in the round of 16 who is surely going to pose a huge threat.
Lastly, Sofia Kenin also has an easy draw like Barty. The only player who will worry her is Johanna Konta and she could potentially face her in the fourth round.
Serena Williams Face Tough Path
At the 2021 Australian Open, American star Serena Williams is looking to create more history. She wants to win her 24th Major there to equal Margaret Court’s all-time record for the most Grand Slams. However, it is not going to be easy for her at all.
In the fourth round of the Australian Open, the American star could face Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian recently was on a 15-match winning streak and could disrupt Serena’s plans of winning. In addition to that, Naomi Osaka could be her opponent in the semis. Hopefully, Williams will be prepared to face them.
Clearly, there are some mouth-watering clashes awaiting tennis fans at this year’s Australian Open. Fans are surely excited and they are definitely not going to be away from their televisions from February 8th.
