British star Andy Murray arrived at the ATP tournament in Cologne, intending to play his best tennis again. However, he did not get the chance to do that as Fernando Verdasco sent him packing. The three-time Grand Slam Champion was definitely not happy about this loss, and he expressed a desire to improve.
After his loss, he said, ” I need to get back to playing my game on the court, I have gone away from that a little bit. I’m maybe making a few more mistakes than usual because of that. I need to practise. I need to play matches and physically I need to get better.”
The British star also compared his performance in Cologne with his performance at the French Open where he lost to Stan Wawrinka.
He said, “Some things I did a little bit better but overall it was not that much better than that match. It’s a surface that I’m a little bit more comfortable on, so that probably helped me. But in terms of my game, it was not much better.”
Andy Murray has struggled on his return to the tour
Ever since he came back from a hip injury that sidelined him from the Tour, Murray has been struggling. Besides losing in Cologne and in Paris, he also lost in New York. There, he was demolished in the second-round by Felix Auger-Aliassime.
It wasn’t a great comeback, and that is why fans are wondering whether the British star will ever return to the top. Considering that he’s 33, it may be difficult as there are many young players who are getting better with each tournament.
However, he is a three-time Grand Slam champion for a reason. He will do his best to return to the top and hopefully, tennis fans will see him win titles next year.
